The School of Architecture and Planning welcomes applications for a full-time Sr. Academic Advisor. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced advisor to join a dynamic group of individuals working and studying in the design disciplines. The School of Architecture and Planning is located on UNM’s main campus and is housed in George Pearl Hall, designed by renowned architect, Antoine Predock.

The Sr. Academic Advisor will provide academic advisement services to graduate students enrolled in the Master of Architecture, Master of Landscape Architecture and Master of Community & Regional Planning professional accredited degrees as well as the Historic Preservation & Regionalism and Urban & Regional Design graduate certificate programs.

Primarily, the Sr. Academic Advisor will provide day-to-day advisement services and serve as liaison to various UNM offices including Office of Graduate Studies, Admissions, Global Education Office, and Records and Registration. The Sr. Academic Advisor will meet regularly with three academic department Chairs and two graduate certificate Directors to develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies, coordinate admissions and graduation, generate statistical reports, gather information and draft reports needed for periodic professional accreditation and academic program reviews. The Sr. Academic Advisor will also assist in recruiting fourth-year undergraduate students to graduate programs and will represent the School at various recruitment and career fairs, coordinate orientation sessions and assist with graduation ceremonies.

The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate effective communication skills as well as a keen interest in the Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture professions.

  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications1) Experience advising students on an individual basis and in group
sessions; 2) experience evaluating and interpreting transcripts and transfer
credits; 3) experience processing admissions, probation, suspension and
graduation; 4) Knowledge of recruitment and retention strategies; 5) experience
representing a degree granting program at recruitment events, career fairs and
orientations; 6) experience resolving complex advisement issues; 7) experience
developing and maintaining records and data systems; 8) experience generating
reports; 9) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher
education
