Position Summary

The Division of Clinical Genetics/Dysmorphology in the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics is seeking a full-time Associate/or full Professor on either the open track to serve as the Division Chief for Clinical Genetics/Dysmorphology and Director of the Metabolic Program. Salary, rank, and track will be commensurate with training and experience. The candidate will be involved with clinical care of general genetic and metabolic patients, medical education of learners at various levels, mentoring of junior faculty and division administration. Excellent opportunities for research are available if desired. Clinics are held in Albuquerque and at outreach locations throughout New Mexico. The clinics consist of general genetics and metabolic clinics. The Division currently consists of one full-time Division Chief clinical/metabolic geneticist, a part-time clinical geneticist, a nurse practitioner, a part-time outreach genetic counselor, one full-time dietician and administrative support.

New Mexico is a geographically large state, with both urban and rural populations totaling 2.1 million. It is ethnically diverse: 10% Native American, 45% Hispanic and 45% "Anglo" and such diversity provides a remarkable range of genetic disorders seen in both in-patient and out-patient settings. Albuquerque is a four-season city one mile in elevation with year-round sun and moderate climate. Centrally located, it offers access to a variety of unique outdoor, culinary and cultural opportunities. Santa Fe, home to world-renowned art, food and history is nearby. Hiking, skiing, golf, etc. are readily available. The University of New Mexico offers a variety of athletic and performing arts activities.

This position is subject to criminal records screening in accordance with New Mexico law and clearance by the New Mexico Department of Health is required as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to obtain state licensure in the state of New Mexico
  • BC/BE in Pediatric Clinical Genetics and Genomics
  • Six years clinical experience
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BC/BE in Biochemical Genetics
  • Administrative experience including management of budgets
  • Spanish language fluency
