Position Summary

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine invites applications for open rank lecturer appointment. Individuals will be engaged in teaching required and elective biochemistry courses and upper level undergraduate biochemistry labs, as well as advising undergraduate students in the Biochemistry program.

The position requires a strong commitment to the educational mission of the Biochemistry department. The candidate should be prepared to be a leader in promoting the adoption of innovative and inclusive pedagogy. The candidate is expected to remain current in biochemistry and related fields, and to serve on departmental, college, or university committees as a contributing member of the department and the broader university community.

Members of groups traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields are especially encouraged to apply.

Environment:

The Biochemistry Program is an undergraduate major in the College of Arts & Sciences, founded and administered by the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the School of Medicine since 1984. The Department is located on the UNM Health Sciences Campus, which includes the School of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, and Public Health programs. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has an established reputation for innovation and excellence in teaching and maintains a nationally recognized and ASBMB accredited undergraduate biochemistry major.

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is the State's principal biomedical research center and has experienced remarkable growth in research infrastructure, faculty, and extramural funding over the past decade. It has a Clinical and Translational Science Center, an NCI designated Cancer Center, and a newly established Brain and Behavioral Health Institute. The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center offers state-of-the-art core facilities in genomics, flow cytometry, microscopy and informatics.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Biochemistry (or closely related field),

  • Relevant professional teaching experience at the undergraduate level courses.

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or Ed.D. in Biochemistry (or closely related field) from an Accredited Institution by appointment start date;
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching a variety of Biochemistry undergraduate courses;
  • Commitment to and experience in using evidence-based teaching approaches;
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and collegially;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and student success, as well as working in diverse communities.
