Position Summary

As part of our continued growth, the University of New Mexico’s Contract and Grant Accounting Department is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented senior accountant who has strong professional accounting skills. Our department is a fast paced environment; therefore, we are looking for energetic individuals with solid computer and technical skills, including experience working with integrated financial systems and federal and state compliance requirements. In addition to monitoring restricted fund activity and ensuring compliance with UNM, Sponsor and Federal/State regulations, the Senior Financial Services Accountant will help to train, coach, and monitor work performance of direct reports. This position requires robust interpersonal skills, including excellent communication skills (oral and written), and superb problem solving skills. This position will report to the Contract and Grant Accounting Supervisor, Fiscal Services.

The Contract and Grant Accounting Department is part of the Financial Services organization. This department interprets and implements UNM policies related to grants and contracts, and reviews and interprets policies of outside private and governmental funding agencies. Further, our department generates and submits regular fiscal reports on sponsored programs as required by various funding agencies, guarantees revenue collection and management through automated invoicing and timely follow-up, and confirms proper payment application. We are also responsible for ensuring expenditures adhere to private and governmental regulations and guidelines. Other duties include responding to audit requests, monitoring sub-recipient and effort certification compliance, and developing reports and documentation for departments and core offices.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, successful completion of at least 15 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, one of which should be in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • MBA/MA/MS in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA/CMA Certification (negotiable)* Knowledge/Skills/Proficiency:
  • In depth knowledge of Uniform Guidance, GASB & other relevant federal and state governmental regulations & policies
  • Proficiency in grant & contract accounting and research administration in an academic, non-profit, or higher education environment Experience:
  • Using financial accounting systems including SCT Banner and MyReports
  • With federal contract/grants, cost accounting standards, federal acquisition regulations and federal funding agencies
  • Working with MyReports or a similar reporting tool, in the reporting, analysis, and reconciliation of complex interdependent financial information
