The Division of Epidemiology/Biostatistics/Preventive Medicine, within the Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a part-time Research Assistant to play a key role in an CDC-funded cooperative agreement examining the incidence and prevalence of hepatitis C among the under-30 population in non-urban areas of New Mexico. This position will travel to field sites and conduct research activities, including Hepatitis C counseling and testing, connecting participants with resources for HCV prevention and education and drug abuse prevention and treatment, street and community-based outreach, maintaining participant tracking databases, recruitment and retention activities, including managing study calendars and phone call reminders. The majority of the work will be at field sites around New Mexico, primarily day-trips, with occasional over-night trips. This position will be required to drive a study van from Albuquerque to and from the study sites.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in community settings with people who are affected by substance use disorders
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary clinic or research setting
  • Trained to provide HIV/HCV rapid testing and counseling
  • Experience with street-based outreach among hard to reach populations
  • Phlebotomy experience
  • Spanish speaking
