We invite applications for a tenure-trackposition as Assistant Professor of Biology and Curator of Herpetology at theMuseum of Southwestern Biology (MSB), a natural history collections facilitywithin the Department of Biology of the University of New Mexico (UNM).
We seek a colleague with demonstrated commitments to (1)collecting and curating natural history specimens; (2) using specimens toaddress fundamental questions in biology; (3) pursuing a vigorous, externallyfunded research program; (4) advancing the integration of specimens into thefield of herpetology; (5) achieving excellence in teaching and mentoring; and (6)diversity, equity, inclusion, student access, as well as working with a diversecommunity.
UNM is both a research intensiveuniversity (Carnegie R1) and a minority-majority institution. It is located inAlbuquerque, a city with a rich cultural heritage in a biodiverse, sceniclandscape. The Department of Biology is family-friendly and comprises ~30tenure-track faculty members (https://biology.unm.edu/core-faculty.shtml),~1500 undergraduate majors, a thriving graduate training program, and a vibrantportfolio of extramurally funded research.
The MSB (https://msb.unm.edu/)includes eight organismal collections, each headed by a faculty-curator,managed by a full-time collection manager, and charged with a shared mission:to collect and curate biodiversity specimens and information to advancescientific understanding of earth's biota over time and space. MSB holds overfour million specimens that contribute to >150 scientific publications annually,and it is a leading institution in the use and development of informaticsresources (https://arctosdb.org/).MSB's cryo-collections comprise more than one-half million samples and areheavily used for basic research ranging from genomics to ecology. The MSBCollection of Amphibians and Reptiles is a fully digitized collection of ~100,000specimens, with a strong history of supporting research on ecology,systematics, and conservation biology.

A Ph.D. in the life sciences is requiredat the time of application, and post-doctoral experience is preferred beforethe start of the appointment.
