The Division of Neonatology is actively recruiting Neonatal Practice Specialists to join other NNPs and PAs at the University of New Mexico’s Children’s Hospital. You will provide mid-level medical and patient care services to at-risk newborn infants and their families in a Level II Intermediate Care Nursery which is closely linked with our Level III NICU. You will work under the guidance of neonatologists. In addition, you will work with fellows, residents, and other departmental specialists in this busy NICU, which has access to all sub-specialties. Using the principles of family centered and developmentally supportive care, this practitioner, under minimal supervision, will provide daily medical management, care planning, communication with families and community providers, and discharge planning to a group of convalescing infants and their families. The job entails expertise in the area of the health care maintenance, chronic disease, and growth and development of the convalescing at - risk infant, and recognition of acute processes requiring intensive care. Other required skills include the ability to develop and maintain relationships/communication with community health care providers and programs that target infants and their families, and the ability to synthesize medical record information into detailed, coherent electronic medical records (EMR)-based discharge summaries. The position has no night coverage responsibilities. Many teaching, research, and mentoring opportunities are available.

Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required.Certification/LicensureEligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's AssistantORState of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner or certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
