As a 23 Hour Outpatient Extended Care LPN you will administer diligent care to our patients via monitoring, assessment, intervention, and continuous reassessment. The 23 Hour Outpatient Extended Care LPN will provide care for post-operative patients immediately following their time in the recovery room. This position is designed to care for our patient population appropriate for surgery in an outpatient ambulatory care setting, but may require an extended stay beyond normal operating business hours.
LPNs will be overseen by the RN on duty. RNs will oversee LPNs.
The 23 Hour Extended Stay Care Unit’s Scope of Service may include, but is not limited to care for conditions or patient needs such as:
- Pain control
- Hypotension (not requiring pressor agents)
- Control of nausea and vomiting
- Extended IV therapy
- Hypertension (not requiring IV drips or other medications not approved for administration in the ASC setting for control)
- Observation for potential bleeding
- Prolonged anesthesia time, when it is prudent to provide additional monitoring.
This is a 7pm (1900) to 7am shift. This position shift schedule is dictated by the needs of the center based upon surgery schedule; an ideal candidate will be flexible for primarily night shifts.
The position type (FT, PT or PRN) is flexible based on the applicant’s preference.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Moreover, we are seeking a flexible, competent, patient-focused team-player that compliments the energy of our surgery center. The LPN for this position will report to the PACU Manager.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current NEW MEXICO Nursing License
Current BLS and ACLS
Preferred two years’ experience in peri-operative settings, specifically PACU, or Critical Care, or Emergency Room
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
Understand principles of aseptic technique and their implementation
Knowledge base to recognize, evaluate, solve problems and correct errors
Ability to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed
Excellent teaching skills
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Demonstrate strong professional and ethical behavior
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians and fellow employees. (TEAMWORK)
Strong customer service skills (AIDET)
Demonstrate accountability, creativity, innovation and be receptive to change
Possess basic knowledge of Performance Improvement ideology
Previous experience working in an ambulatory surgical setting preferred.
