Substance Abuse Education Facilitator
at Jemez Pueblo
Create and facilitate substance abuse education programs to prevent and reduce substance abuse; presenting to and training community members and staff; works collaboratively with the Medical Director to ensure that strategies address local needs and preferences and employ programs that have been proven to work.
Plans, creates, and provides substance abuse training and educational programs and resources to community members, individuals, and families with substance use disorders, including opioid, alcohol, methamphetamine, and other substances.
Researches materials, presentations, and webinars for presentation to clinical providers, community groups, and patients.
Introduces, hosts, or co-hosts training or educational sessions; creates links between items, introduces and interviews guests, and interacts with audiences; prepares and delivers materials, supplies, etc., for each program session.
Assists in the implementation of the new dispensing for Naloxone/Narcan protocol; develops written education materials for clients meeting the criteria for Naloxone/Narcan.
Researches and implements waiting room video presentations and materials for review by clients.
Assists clients and family members in the attendance of the required 15 minute hands on educational demonstration on the use of Naloxone and rescue breathing.
Tracks attendance at trainings, and maintains records associated with clients and families.
Orients clients to educational program explaining clearly program guidelines as evidenced by clients understanding of program expectations; trains in the clients’ homes, and provides educational materials to accompany the training.
Serves as a primary outreach and resource person to establish community contact, increase and develop community awareness of identified mental health and prevention needs resource for assistance programs and other referral contacts, building working partnerships and providing program information and personalized service to increase participation amongst community members.
Provides training and educational resources, including updated prescriber guidelines, to assist health professionals in making informed prescribing decisions and address the over-prescribing of opioids.
Updates and maintains inventory of training materials.
Maintains accurate, complete records of programs and projects.
Assists with data gathering with documentation and others issues associated with patient care. Additionally, this position will provide/assist with preparing reports, orientation of new patients to the education program.
Contributes to the overall quality of the unit’s service provision and work teams by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.
Represents the Pueblo with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
Skill / Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in education, nursing, counseling, behavioral health, or social services field
field; AND two (2) years of experience preparing and presenting educational materials.
Required Certificates, Licenses, And Registrations: Valid New Mexico Driver’s License. CPR & First Aid certification within six (6) months of date of employment.
