  • Overview

    Responsible for acting as an advocate and job coach by providing assistance to consumers in preparation for employment; establish and collaborate with surrounding businesses for possible job placements.

    Responsibilities

    • Assists and provides consumers with interviewing skills, effective communication, resume writing, job search, transportation to job search/interviews and job fairs; advocacy, job coaching, internet and computer assistance.
    • Researches, networks and establishes collaboration with local/surrounding businesses for job placement, on-the-job training, and job shadowing.
    • Educates employers on financial incentives for hiring people with disabilities; utilizes available resources to provide and develop appropriate accommodations within the workplace as needed.
    • Plans and develops training materials to facilitate trainings (employability skills training and job/college fair); performs outreach activities, conferences, finance classes, education on program services and disability awareness in the communities served; advertises for various events.
    • Provides on-going monitoring, follow up and feedback to consumers, employers and supervisor regarding consumer’s job placements, site visits and written consumer reports; maintains collaborations with businesses.
    • Processes and maintains consumer cases/records and intakes, daily consumer data input into the computer system.
    • Provides one-on-one vocational rehabilitation counseling services; establishes consumer’s individual plan for employment for support services; sends referrals to appropriate resources for services as needed; requests and gathers medical health records from medical facilities for determination of eligibility for services.
    • Establishes and networks with tribal programs and surrounding businesses for consumer job placements, medical and mental health services.
    • Attends and participates in all relevant events, workshops, training and meetings to gain skills and knowledge relating to program and consumer services.
    • Contributes to the overall quality of the unit’s service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.
    • Represents the Pueblo with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Education and Experience:

    High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED); AND formal coursework in social work, or a closely related field; AND two (2) years of experience in developing and providing community service programming.

    Required Knowledge and Skills

    Knowledge of:

    • Applicable laws, codes and regulations.
    • Community business environment.
    • Record keeping and report writing principles and practices.
    • Principles and practices of employment search and selection.
    • Basic principles and practices of skill development and counseling.
    • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.

    Skill in:

    • Complying with applicable laws, codes and regulations.
    • Maintaining accurate case records and preparing accurate and timely reports.
    • Developing training programs, to include program planning and implementation.
    • Assisting consumers in identifying personal interests to a job, workplace supports to accommodate consumer’s disability, conducting job and task analysis, determining the skill level of consumers for job/career of choice, assessing the job site and essential functions of the job for consumers, advocating for consumers and assisting employers with reasonable job accommodations.
    • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
    • Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.
    • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
    • Using software applications related to assigned functions.
    • Dealing successfully with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone, often where relations may be confrontational or strained.
    • Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.

    REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

    • Valid New Mexico Driver’s License.
