Two PRN or “as needed” Advanced Practice Registered Nurse positions are available at The Mind Research Network in Albuquerque, New Mexico to support clinical research projects. The positions will primarily support NIH-funding projects in the area of substance use disorders, including projects examining a new medication for smoking cessation. This position is PRN or "as needed" and is not eligible for benefits.
The role will primarily involve day shifts (e.g., 3-6 hours) one or more days per week, to be scheduled on an as-needed basis. In addition, the position will require being on-call for fielding patient side effect questions.
Clinical roles will include the following: assisting study staff in determining medical eligibility for studies, assisting with medical screening visits (i.e., conducting interview-based assessments and performing physical examinations), conducting medication side effect assessments, assess for safety if patients have side effects and appropriately triage or recommend additional medical care if needed, assisting with scheduling follow-up medical visits, review and sign off on screening laboratory tests, and assisting with monitoring participants (e.g., monitoring vital signs) during laboratory visits. The role will also include assisting with medication dispensing, monitoring and prescribing, in coordination with the lead physician.
Requires APRN certification, NP, CRNA, or CNS, with prescriptive authority and licensure to practice in New Mexico.
Must have the ability to understand and follow basic scientific research protocols and procedures.
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality. Must have a high degree of professionalism, strong organizational and time-management skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of tasks simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background check. Candidates must also provide evidence of clinical/professional liability insurance.

Experience in clinical research settings, experience with clinical assessments and statistical methods/software as well as experience with psychiatric or substance use disorder patient populations is all preferable.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
