Position Summary
The New Mexico PreK program with UNM Continuing Education's Early Childhood Services Center (ECSC) is seeking a Program Manager to provide guidance, feedback, support, and thoughtful leadership to a team of NM PreK consultants who are trusted and dynamic partners in developing the skills and competencies that NM PreK teaches to achieve optimal educational outcomes for children attending NM PreK. The ECSC partners with the Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD) and the Public Education Department (PED) to provide consultation and training to NM PreK teachers and administrators throughout the state of New Mexico.

The ideal candidate is passionate in working with young children and seeing them succeed within caring, culturally-sensitive, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and stimulating learning environments. The candidate is genuinely interested and eager to share their knowledge of reflective practice, technical assistance, mentoring, coaching, and other adult-training frameworks to support the professional development, and learning needs of NM PreK consultants and teaches.

The Program Manager works collaboratively with other Early Childhood programs, departments, managers, agencies, and constituents on multidisciplinary projects to support and enhance the delivery of NM PreK consultation and training services. This requires an action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, self-directed, vision/mission driven individual who utilizes field and peer-reviewed research to develop innovative approaches to consultation, training, effective business, operational, and organization planning. The selected candidate oversees, coordinates, and evaluates curriculum development, and oversees the preparation and delivery of training. Participates in the development and oversight of operating budgets, and management of state funding. Provides technical and professional coordination, and leadership in the management of administrative and daily operations.

This is a term Appointment: Funding available through 6/30/2017; continuance beyond that date is subject to department's operational needs as outlined in UBPPM #3200.

Skills / Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of management level experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Or 60 college level credits; at least 4 years of experience 2 of which are management level experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. OR High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience 2 of which are management level experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Five years of work experience with children birth to eight years old
  • Experience with observation documentation/assessment and curriculum process, Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP), and designing and implementing quality early childhood environments
  • Ability to develop and deliver on-site TA using Early Childhood Education instructional strategies that reflect the principles of adult learning
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and data management skills
  • Demonstrates success in developing and maintaining supportive work relationships in a culturally sensitive manner
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to establish trust and rapport with members of diverse communities
  • Ability to travel statewide
  • Hold a valid New Mexico Driver's License
