The Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) is a university-based federal-state partnership which aims to enhance science and technology infrastructure in education, in the private sector, and in related government programs. EPSCoR operates on the principle that aiding researchers and institutions in securing federal R&D funding will develop a state's research infrastructure and advance economic growth. The core of every state-centered EPSCoR program is a partnership with the National Science Foundation (NSF). New Mexico received $12.95 million in National Science Foundation EPSCoR funds from 2001 to 2008.

The Associate Director will organizes and coordinates the administrative, business, and mission functions of the State NM EPSCoR office. Guide and assist in the formulation and preparation of strategic plans and programs for the NM EPSCoR, and manages all financial, administrative, and resource aspects of the program. Directs and administers the day-to-day operations of the NM EPSCoR and its programs.

Skills / Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree 7 to 10 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.


Preferred Qualifications
PhD or EdD

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with local, State and Federal Agencies.

Extensive knowledge of:
  • NSF funded programs, terms and conditions, and related OMB Circular Financial Regulations and ARRA Financial and Reporting Regulations.
  • Management of Federal Budgets
  • Development and implementation strategies in an Academic and Research environment.

    Experience in:
  • Collaboration with other Universities in the coordination of STEM Programs.
  • In Federal Grant Writing
  • Collaborating with educational, State and Federal constituencies to support Science Education.
  • Coordinating activities and initiatives with other state and federal agencies; business consortia and other organizations.
  • Management skills for large complex government funded programs
