Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute (LRRI), a growth oriented contract research organization, is seeking a Payroll Manager for its Albuquerque headquarters. Responsible for all aspects of Institute payroll, including processing of bi-weekly payroll, ensuring that employee timesheets meet with Institute requirements, processing of payroll related 3rd party vendor payments, pension plan accounting and managing the outsourced payroll tax vendor (Ceridian). Reviews and approves the payroll related reports and federal and state tax reports. Assures payroll procedures are in compliance and recommends changes to management. This position reports to the Corporate Controller and manages one staff.


Must have a thorough understanding of multi-state payroll, general ledger accounting, project accounting, and Federal government contracting regulations related to labor accounting. Knowledgeable of and ability to utilize various IRS tax publications, APA Payroll Source, APA Federal Payroll Tax for Profit and Non-Tax Laws & Regulations to assure on-going compliance for assigned areas. Ability to interact with all employees and external representatives including IRS, State Taxation Departments, TIAA-CREF, Tax Saver representatives, Ceridian, and banking institutions. Ability to unitize Costpoint, Impromptu Reports and related computer software. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Ability to efficiently perform duties and meet deadlines. Ability to handle confidential information professionally. Must be highly organized and highly motivated. Must be able to manage multiple priorities and able to work well in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and a minimum of (7) seven years experience as a payroll manager/supervisor with a mid-size or large company involved with multi-state payroll and time reporting for Federal government contracts. Certification as a Payroll Professional (CPP) and experience with Deltek's Costpoint payroll system is preferable.
