MEDICAL DIRECTOR PHH
Requisition Number: 29066 Location: NM - Albuquerque Type of Opportunity: Regular Part-Time FLSA Classification: Exempt Minimum Experience: 5 years Minimum Education: MD Shift: Varied * Coordinates management of HPP's for physicians and advanced practice clinicians with Exec Dir and program leads. * Assures physician and program compliance within CMS regulations for programs clinically, billing and coding and credentialing. * Participates in medical leadership planning regarding how to best use services to manage care, coordinates services and effectively manage the PMG cap for the system and for PHH. * Collaborates with Executive Director and PHH directors to promote and improve PHH programs. Works with Senior leaders in conjunction with PHH Executive Director and PMG Associate Med Director. * Attends physician leadership meetings and communicates to physician group all relevant information. * Leads and assures physician involvement in clinical policy and procedural development and review. * Coordinates physician 'fellow' rotations through programs * Assists with facilitation of clinical research related to PHH programs. * Provides and maintains effective communications with the physician community, PHS leadership, PHH leadership, Hospice staff, and patients and the community. * Provides leadership in assuring clinical quality, compliance with all regulations, program growth and development and program financial viability. * Develops and recommends goals and objectives and assists in establishing and implementing policies and procedures for the Hospice and Palliative Care programs. * Develops measures of success for the Hospice and Palliative Care programs and ensures their successful deployment. * Provides leadership across all facilities and locations within the PHS Network regarding Hospice, Palliative care, Pain Management and End of Life issues. Assists PHH in the establishment of a palliative care program within the PHS system. * Serves as a medical resource to interdisciplinary team members. Assures provision of 24/7 coverage for the Hospice Program for both the Inpatient Unit and outpatients. * Complements the attending/primary physician's care without assuming primary care management unless required to do so by either the primary physician or the patient/family. * Provides patient visits/care as determined by medical necessity. * Assures overall continuity of the hospice program's medical services. * Administrative and general supervisory activities include, but are not limited to, the following: * Participating in the establishment, review and updating of plan(s) of care during weekly IDT meetings and UR meetings. * Supervising care and services and approving admissions of complicated or questionable patients thus ensuring appropriateness of care. * Intervenes with the primary physician if there is a question about palliative versus curative treatments. * Serves on the Professional Advisory Committee for PHH and chairs the Hospice Medical Practice Committees as needed. * Approves medical treatment or medications that are questionable for hospice services in conjunction with hospice clinical mangers. * Provides advice regarding best practice pharmaceutical management of patients. * Participate in education of staff and physicians. * Performs other functions as required. Skills / Requirements
Skills: M.D./D.O. in Oncology, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine or Family Practice required. Five or more years experience clinically. Prefer board certification in hospice and palliative medicine or ability to achieve certification within 2 years.
Knowledge: Requires detailed knowledge of Hospice or care of the terminally ill. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of patients served. Abilities: Mental Power: Ability to make decisions that require significant analysis and investigation with solutions requiring significant original thinking. Mental Power: Ability to determine appropriate courses of action in more complex situations that may not be addressed by existing policies, procedures or protocols. Decisions include such matters as changes in staffing levels, order in which work is done, and application of established procedures.
