Position Summary: The UNM Cancer Center is looking for an individual who is interested in a challenging opportunity working in a research laboratory. The applicant selected for this position will work under general supervision and perform procedures according to established protocols. Applicant will also be responsible for generating and analyzing data.
Duties include participation in highly complex experiments involving basic molecular biology (restriction enzyme digest, PCR, cloning, RNA/DNA extractions, reverse transcription, Northern/Southern blotting), bacterial culture and plasmid preparations (maxi and mini), protein extraction and analysis (Western blotting, immunoprecipitation), flow cytometry, tissue culture and animal work (mice). Will supervise students and help with the general management of the lab. May be required to monitor stock and purchase research supplies as needed. Working knowledge of PowerPoint, Word and other computer programs for analysis and presentation of data. Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of directly related experience. OR Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 1 year of directly related experience. OR Bachelor's degree; no previous work experience required. Preferred Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. -Generating and analyzing data for research experiments. - Expertise in preparing biological buffers and cell culture medias. - Experience with care and passage of cultured mammalian cells. - Maintaining and purchasing inventory of laboratory supplies and maintaining laboratory equipment in good working condition. - Experience with basic molecular biology techniques. (PCR, cloning, RNA/DNA, blotting, culture and plasmid preparations, extraction and analysis, and tissue culture). - MS Excel, PowerPoint, Other Software Programs. Important Notes
