Jobing Description
Storage and Backup Administrator is a technical role and is accountable for the day to day operations of the MRN's network attached storage and backup infrastructure located both on and offsite. Candidates will be expected to manage a large storage infrastructure that is accessed by Windows, Linux, and OSX based clients. Candidates will also be responsible for managing the backup infrastructure that provides disaster recovery support for MRN based on Bakbone's Netvault software. Candidates will diagnose, research and resolve storage and backup related issues using vendor resources and other support methods. This position acts as a technical advisor for system related activity and assists in the development and implementation of solutions for capacity and performance related issues. Will also assist in software product installations, updates, and customizations for storage components and fiber channel switch infrastructure, the candidate must have strong communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned. - Manage large scale NAS storage systems including volume creation, capacity planning, and share/file system level security controls. - Monitoring & maintenance of SAN/NAS systems and centralized backup infrastructure hardware/software. - Successfully responding to and resolving customer issues related to storage and backups/restores - Providing architectural solutions based on organizational requirements and coordination with vendors on hardware and software implementation. - Perform software and firmware updates when necessary for storage and backup infrastructure including NAS appliances, VTL and tape library hardware, backup software, and fiber channel switches. - Work with System Administrators to provide proper backups and disaster recovery capabilities for VMware infrastructure and mission critical servers. - Work with other IT staff in an On Call rotation for emergency situations. - Help System Administrators with day to day help desk issues. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Required: - Candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree with at least 2-5 years of previous relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Intermediate level expertise with SAN/NAS administration and support experience as demonstrated through related professional level work experience. - Proven advanced working knowledge of medium scale SAN/NAS infrastructure and systems. - Demonstrated strong verbal & written communication and organization skills. - Appropriate level of senior technical experience. - Experience with successfully delivering documented procedures based on industry standards and best practices. Preferred: - Senior level Windows and Linux systems administration experience; Bakbone Netvault experience; FalconStor VTL experience; Shell scripting; Intermediate support experience with NetApp and Sun storage systems. - Proven knowledge of CIFS, NFSv3 and 4, and file system ACL's. - Technical writing skills.
