Requisition Number: 28720 Location: NM - Albuquerque Type of Opportunity: Regular Full-Time FLSA Classification: NON-EXEMPT Minimum Experience: 3 years Minimum Education: Associates Degree Shift: Varied * Assists with development, implementation and education of Standards Based Practice, and with the validation, coordination and development of educational competencies. Coordinates inservices for staff. * Participates in conferences and professional development. Coordinates staff education competency system. * Orients new staff members to unit and environment. Coordinates unit preceptor program for new staff and/or students. Develops and maintains unit orientation plan and cross-training guidelines collaboratively with Shared Governance councils. * Facilitates literature review on patient care topics. Informs staff of current educational opportunities available. Contributes to unit newsletter and Nursing Progress Notes. Serves as expert resource for staff. Facilitates changes relative to the changing health care environment. * Serves as liaison to other units and departments. Provides clinical expertise and consultation to other units. * Facilitates integration of new products and equipment. * Partners with shared governance representatives. Collaborates with Physicians, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Educators, other Education Resource Nurses, and other Health Care Professionals. Collaborates with academic institutions (TVI, UNM, UOP, etc.). * Organizes and manages educational patient materials. Coordinates the development of patient teaching protocols in conjunction with unit-based Professional Development Council and/or Educator or Clinical Nurse Specialist. * Provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting individual patient needs, actions taken and patient responses. * Coordinates patients' care through collaboration with the patient/family and healthcare team. * Performs assessments as per unit standards and documents on appropriate data base/assessment flow sheet. * Initiates, utilizes and documents appropriate protocols and standards of care. * Administers medication and treatments as prescribed by physician, or standard protocols. * Identifies and meets patient and family learning and discharge needs on admission and throughout episode of care. * Evaluates patient progression toward outcomes per unit standards and documents through EOSS etc. * Performs competently in emergency situations. * Delegates or assigns aspects of patient care to healthcare team members commensurate with their validated competency to perform the task. * Assumes responsibility for the clinical supervision of LPNs and non-licensed assistive personnel. * Provides leadership through communication about and validation of patient care. * Assists with various procedures, treatments, surgical techniques or assigns to other healthcare team members as appropriate. * Completes patient population/age-specific/procedure and protocol education and competency testing per unit standards. * Demonstrates competency in required psychomotor skills. * Assists in orientation of new staff or students, and serve as a resource person and professional role model. * Assumes professional responsibility for current nursing structure and clinical standards of care. * Incorporates PHS mission (VVPS) in care-giving activities. * Supports DON philosophies of shared governance and models of care delivery. * Assumes other leadership roles as required by the department. * Meets professional requirements as follows: A. In-service requirements: 1. Age-specific training (care giving, treatment, assessments specific to the age of populations served). 2. Mandatory yearly inservice to include BLS, safety training, bloodborne pathogen/infection/TB training. B. Performance Standards: 1. Participates in unit/department governance. 2. Adheres to PHS dress code for professionals, including display of ID badge. 3. Documents own continuing education. 4. Maintains positive communication and relationships with patients, peers and other healthcare team members. 5. Participates in quality improvement activities. 6. Maintains a punctual and reliable attendance record. 7. Completes mandatory inservices, competencies and licensure requirements on time. 8. Adheres to safety and equipment policies. * Performs other functions as required. Skills / Requirements
BSN or BS/BA with MSN preferred; completion of BSN or MSN within 5 years.
National certification in area of expertise/patient population preferred; completion of certification within two years. State of New Mexico Nursing License required. One year of experience in nursing specialty or related clinical field required. The ERN must demonstrate the skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients on their assigned unit.
