Shift: Days

Interprets and evaluates medication orders. Prepares and dispenses medication to patients.
* Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, QA program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

* Dispenses medications and monitors for appropriateness for in-patient use.

* Supplies designated areas with floor stock and provide pre-packs for emergency dispensing.

* Distributes medications into unit doses as needed.

* Supplies night cabinet with medications for after pharmacy hours dispensing.

* Serves as a resource for medication information to medical staff, nursing, and other staff. Assists with educating patients and families on the use of medications, including side effects and interactions.

* Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservices, and meetings. Attends meetings and participates on committees as required.

* Oversees the pharmacy related activities of RN pharmacy coordinator.

* Responds to codes as appropriate to facilitate rapid emergency drug preparation.

* Performs other functions as required.

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy. New Mexico Board of Pharmacy license required. Less than one year experience in pharmacy practice.
Requires detailed knowledge of pharmacy drug dispensing and monitoring in terms of what and how work is to be done as well as why it is done, this level includes interpretation of data. This staff member must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of patients served.
