Provides clinical leadership and expertise within the palliative care services team to improve patient care within the Albuquerque delivery system for patients with complex illness and patients approaching end-of-life illnesses. The Palliative Care Consult Service Physician builds effective relationships with referring physicians to ensure excellent team follow-up regarding patient consults and strives to improve the culture of collaboration among specialist, primary care physicians, nurses and other staff to meet the needs of palliative care patients. They proactively identify opportunities to improve the patient and family experience of care and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of resource use while ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures.

Care for patients referred for a consult by the attending physician to treat suffering and improve quality of life in patients with life limiting illnesses. The palliative care physician is responsible for managing the care of patient to the degree requested by the attending and works collaboratively with nurse case manager, care managers, care coordinators, consulting and primary care physicians and other healthcare professionals who comprise the patient's care team. The palliative care physician leads the team by supporting families and medical staff with complex medical decision making and supports the team in providing efficient and compassionate care.

M.D., board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or eligible to sit for board in 2 years. Board certified in Internal Medicine, family practice or oncology, State of New Mexico Medical License required..
