Job: Financial Aid Officer (0803424)

Position Summary: The Financial Aid Officer, working within the centralized financial aid services environment, evaluates, approves, and awards financial aid to students in accordance with federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and operating guidelines. Assesses financial needs of students, and advises students and parents regarding financial aid options, processes, and requirements. Evaluates student academic progress, and adjudicates academic progress appeals. Participates as appropriate in systems/procedures planning and management. Implements and coordinates specific individual programs and/or assignments, in accordance with the overall objectives of the department.

The mission of the Student Financial Aid Department is to provide UNM students with the timely delivery of financial assistance while maintaining accountability and proper stewardship of the public, institutional, and private funds with which it is entrusted. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; with at least 1 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

OR

Successful completion of university-level credit hours equivalent to an associate's degree; at least 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

OR

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Preferred Qualifications: Current knowledge of:

State financial aid programs.

Title IV regulations.

Proficient with the Banner Financial Aid system.

Customer service experience in a Higher Education environment.
