Position Summary: The UNM Office of Research is seeking a Human Protections Specialist to fill a position in Research Protections. This position supports the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at UNM Health Sciences Center, which governs the conduct of over 2,000 active research studies. The successful candidate will oversee, provide, and coordinate technical and administrative review of human research application materials prior to review by the IRB, providing support and guidance to investigators on content. The Human Protections Specialist will provide leadership and supervision to Human Research Review Analysts. They will also plan, organize, and conduct audits of IRB approved research to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulation, policies and guidelines, to protect human subjects, researchers, and the University, to assess clinical trial performance, and to identify scientific misconduct in human subject research. The successful candidate for this position will have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or closely related field, and experience in human research related activities including IRB submissions, the informed consent process, protocol adherence and adverse event reporting.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Biomedical Science, or closely related field; at least 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in nursing. Direct experience in IRB Administration. Policy and procedure development. Proficiency utilizing medical terminology. Expertise in Federal, State and FDA regulations and guidelines for the conduct of human subjects research. Experience: Preparing applications and other documents for submission to an Institutional Review Board (IRB). Supervising staff. Monitoring or coordinating human research activities in a clinical setting or in an IRB setting dealing with issues. Important Notes
