Under direct supervision, the selected candidate will perform a variety of duties to assist attorneys in coordination of document production, responding to interrogatories, researching and drafting legal memoranda and pleadings, developing and maintaining document control for the more complex and higher impact litigation and regulatory filings. • Designs and coordinates companywide litigation and claims support program. Interfaces and supports outside counsel regarding claims handling, pre-trial, and trial matters. • Coordinates document production and response to interrogatories on a company wide basis. • Conducts fact and legal research and investigations, locates cases, dispositions, opinions, reports, and information related to the matter at hand. • Drafts complaints and answers, pleadings, discovery, discovery responses, routing notices, affidavits, motions and petitions • Reviews and outlines depositions, indexes, and summarizes documents • Contacts and interviews parties, witnesses and experts, including the obtaining of written statements from witnesses • Schedules witnesses, controls, and tracks exhibits • Locates and confers with expert witnesses and resource persons • Arranges for expert opinions, reports, inspections, and obtains approval from counsel of record and specified parties Qualifications for the Paralegal position include: • High school diploma or GED. Must have a minimum of 5 – 10 years experience working as a Paralegal working in litigation or regulatory. Preferably both. If the candidates has a Paralegal license, 5 years of experience will be sufficient. • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in pre-law preferred. • Thorough knowledge and understanding of public utility regulations and rules of procedure for state and federal courts. • Specialized knowledge of legal and regulatory processes. • Must be experienced and proficient at legal research, and the use of research tools available in the department • Ability to maintain confidentiality • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public • Ability to use computer and software packages applicable to litigation support, document search, and retrieval • Experience working with Document Management Systems such as Hummingbird or Open Text is preferred.
